Often you can see mounted solar panels on campers, RV's and boats. Portable solar panels can easily produce enough electricity to power a refrigerator, TV and lights; all without a sound or any pollution. This is a logical way to get started, if you want to live off the grid.

Coffee makers, laptops, and cell phones are some of the things that portable solar panels can power. Now you can check your email and conduct business, no matter where you are, as long as you can access the internet. Your electrical needs come courtesy of mother nature, plus a little high technology.

You could always roll up your solar panel and bring it along backpacking, it really is possible! Portable solar panels come in so many sizes and shapes that there probably is a panel for every application. Whether you are a backpacker or enthusiast of another sport, there is a portable solar panel to meet your needs.

Personally, I am consistently amazed at solar panels. Magically, they convert sunshine into electricity, all without asking for much attention or upkeep! These are amazing little bundles of technology that enable you to stay powered, if you really want to. However, when I go backpacking, I prefer to be unplugged!

On the other hand, imagine if you had an online business to run and you still wanted to backpack in Nepal or Rocky Mountain National Park (my old stomping ground). With portable solar panels you could get the best of both worlds.

Can a person maker their own portable solar panel?
Yes, you can; it just takes a couple hundred bucks, a weekend or two, some dedication and a bit of ingenuity. No doubt about it, the average person can do this, if you have some stick-to-it-ness.

The two primary ways to make your own portable solar panel.

  • Buy a kit that has everything you need: instructions, materials, accessories, etc.
Everything is supplied, not counting your gumption!
  • Buy a kit that gives you the necessary information to build your own solar panel, but you procure the materials. You can find almost everything right at the local hardware store.

Both of these approaches have their place. If you have no ability whatsoever in making things and have a lot of money, buy the first option: the ready make kit

Most people, however, buy the second kit. You are supplied with all the knowledge required to make your own solar panel. The best part though, is that it will only cost about $200 to do it on you own..

Portable solar panels come in so many varieties that there is almost certainly one that is right for you. They also range a great deal by price. It is surprising how much money you can save by doing it yourself.

The beauty of portable solar panels is that they are portable! Just think how often most people move. By planning ahead, you could take your solar panels to your new home and set them up again, and save money again.
